EFN Free UNIX Shells provides free access to a public UNIX/Linux system. Here you can get a shell account on a server that you can connect to via SSH! You can run programs and use our system for your needs, IRC is also allowed!

We provide our users with how-to guides via our wiki, where they can find command-line instructions and more. These tools are great for beginners and help users navigate our shell and its prompts. Shells are hosted on stable and secure servers. These shell accounts are for system administrators, enthusiasts, hobbyists, newbies, and anyone else who knows what a shell account is for. It's a way to work with UNIX/Linux remotely. If you are a Windows user and want to try UNIX/Linux, this is the way to do it. There haven't been any attempts to do anything malicious to our system yet, and we'd like to keep it that way. This keeps everyone happy.

  • 2026.06.26 - We’ve just reached the limit of 300 free shell users !!!

Going forward, free access will be reserved for users who are actively supporting the project through donations. Simply being inactive is no longer enough. The first wave of limitations will be geolocation restrictions targeting countries with a history of abuse of our resources. This includes regions where extreme poverty is widespread and people are often unable to contribute even a small amount. We understand the difficult situations many face, but the reality is that the entire world runs on money — and we are no exception. Since we are not registered as a charity, we have to protect our infrastructure somehow. Servers and electricity cost real money. We don’t want to introduce harsh limits, but if the current situation continues, further restrictions will become necessary. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting the project — your help keeps things running.❤️
