about

Welcome to Free UNIX Shells – a platform offering free Linux, BSD, and Unix shell accounts to enthusiasts, developers, students, and anyone eager to explore a variety of operating systems. Founded by Justinas (e1z0), a passionate IT administrator. This project aims to build a diverse community where users can learn, experiment, and connect. Free Shells Service grants access to a range of Unix-like systems, from the familiar Ubuntu and FreeBSD to more exotic environments such as Solaris, QNX, and DragonflyBSD, with additional rare and vintage systems planned for the future.

Our vision is to create an open, accessible space where developers and testers can expand their knowledge, students can gain hands-on experience, and curious minds can experiment freely. By providing accounts on unique and often hard-to-access systems, we aim to foster creativity and curiosity in the Unix ecosystem. For those who enjoy working with vintage and legacy systems, this project serves as the sibling to https://vintage2000.org and will similarly feature vintage systems that users can explore and experience.

All services provided are entirely free of charge, though donations are welcomed and go directly towards maintaining and expanding the infrastructure. As an IT professional, I cover all server costs myself, which not only supports the project but also provides valuable real-world experience in server management and user support. I am committed to keeping Free UNIX Shells Service free for everyone.

Currently, we offer free access to Ubuntu 22.04 and are preparing FreeBSD 14.1 for upcoming availability. As the community grows, additional Linux distributions and operating systems will be added based on user interest, including lesser-known or exotic systems.

Join us at Free UNIX Shells Service, where the Unix community can come together, gain practical experience, and build a network with like-minded individuals. I look forward to growing this community and providing a resourceful space for everyone interested in the world of Unix.
